Reports to: General Manager – Pittsburgh (Corporate Office)
JOB SUMMARY:
The Consultant’s position is designed to provide an overview of the current health, severity of damage and clear scope of
any necessary repairs to residential and commercial roofs/exterior envelopes as a result of weather conditions/events as
well as delineate between damage caused by weather/storm and wear & tear. This overview is based on the instructions
provided by our clients and serves as a reference for the understanding of the roof’s integrity and remaining lifespan.
This position will be based out of and reports to the General Manager of the Pittsburgh Corporate Office while working
directly with the other Consultants in order to complete assignments. Travel to other branch locations will be necessary.
JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Must possess knowledge of roofing systems and component aptitude:
a. Knowledge of steep-sloped and low-slope/flat roofs (i.e.: gable, hip, shed, mansard, gambrel)
b. Knowledge of types of shingles/coverings (i.e.: asphalt, metal roof, membrane, tile, wood shakes, slate)
c. Knowledge of installation methods
d. Knowledge of roofing components and appurtenances
e. Application of the applicable building code
f. Knowledge of ventilation
2. Must possess knowledge of the exterior envelope:
a. Foundation – precipitation and ground moisture
b. Exterior Walls – load bearing and non-load bearing
c. Exterior Claddings and code requirements
d. Openings
3. Responsible for continuing education and obtaining certifications required as industry standard.
a. HAAG Certifications for Residential & Commercial roof inspections (within the first three months of
employment).
b. Prepare for testing and obtaining drone operators license for utilization during inspections as necessary
(within the first year of employment).
4. Must have excellent communication skills, with not only the office personnel, but also to be able to meet and have
dialogue with Adjusters, Attorneys, Insureds, Contractors, Public Adjusters and other parties on site and through
telephone and email throughout the assignment process.
5. Must assess (scope) repairs necessary on damaged structures and determine cause of damage.
6. Ability to estimate projects using a unit cost estimating process and/or costs per measurements process. Must be
able to operate computer estimating systems including Xactimate and its sketch.
7. Utilize working knowledge of construction/repair procedures necessary for completion of projects on both residential
and commercial structures in preparation of estimate.
8. Execute and prepare a professionally worded report of findings.
9. Required to work with the Insurance Industry to accommodate each insurance company’s specific requirements for
cost estimates, repair parameters, report formats and payment procedures.
10. Must maintain professional relations with Insurance Adjusters and Property Owners.
11. Render professional opinions for legal representation and submit expert testimony as required.
12. Prepare and/or obtain necessary diagrams, blueprints and photographs of relevant damage, as
requested.
13. Must possess the ability to learn and grow in the company in all areas of inspections as to move forward in the
position.
14. Must attend all company meetings required of the position.
15. Responsible for meeting monthly sales goal requirements of company.
16. Expected to travel (as needed) to site locations in other states.
17. Expected to report to work with a professional appearance.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
5 years’ experience in roofing/construction related field.
Working knowledge of estimating process and current materials/labor rates and standards.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES, MENTAL PROCESSES AND TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT:
Physical Requirements:
1. Must be able to gain access to damaged structures, residential and commercial.
2. Must be able to access roofs of varying stories/pitches for inspection purposes, including roofs over two stories.
3. Must be able to ascend and descend stairways and ladders up to 40 feet.
4. Must be able to carry, set up and ascend and descend step ladders and extension ladders.
5. Required to bend, kneel and reach areas from floor to ceiling to take measurements for estimate.
6. Required to drive a motor vehicle and possess a valid driver’s license.
Tools and Equipment:
1. Able to use Delmhorst meter, Hygrometer, Hydrosensor, measuring tools, thermal imaging camera, Boroscope and
other related devices as they become available.
2. Able to access and use computer estimating package and other equipment and software requirements of the
Insurance industry.
Working Conditions:
Required to travel to damaged properties as necessary. Exposed to extreme conditions on location including external
weather conditions and internal damage conditions. Office and Remote work as coordinated with General Manager in order
to complete inspection documentation. Some travel to other states in order to assist IRC branch offices, when necessary,
which requires the ability to work from out-of-town locations.
