This weekend I was at the South Park 911 event. They were handing out flags like popcorn. The only problem is that people had no clue that it was disrespectful to put the flag on the ground.
As a veteran of 3 tours in Afghanistan before being hit with mortar shrapnel I see so often the lack of respect for the American Flag.
Adults and kids have no idea what it means to see the flag on the ground.
It's like a knife being shoved through my side.
It's like seeing a friend who you've fought with on the ground after a mortar burst has taken off his leg.
It's like seeing a child who only a day before was kicking a soccer ball today is in the rubble of a building that was hit by Taliban shells.
Please, show respect, if you have a flag, don't lay it on the ground, put it on a table or chair or stick it in the ground or tie it to a tree, but Please, keep it off the ground.
If you don't, then don't be surprised when someone walks over, picks it up and walks away with it.
You obviously don't deserve to have it.
