I will be in town interviewing for a pharmaceutical sales position on 5/22 and 5/23. I have 6 interviews set from our headhunter. I am looking to fill my other 6 interview slots with referrals or candidates of my own finding. I am heavily financially incentivized to hire outside of our recruiting agency -- so these 6 interview spots are important to me. This is an entry level position selling to primary care physicians in the greater Pittsburgh area ranging from the south hills, east to Monroeville, West to Sewickley, and North to Butler. Pay with bonuses at plan is in the 90k-110k range with a company car. Loyalty is important to me in this hire. This position has turned over 3 times in 3 years because my reps have taken higher paying jobs as soon as they have the experience to qualify. I need someone who will stay in this position for at least 3 years with the understanding that pay will increase with good performance and promotions are highly likely for good candidates within 3-4 years.
No pharmaceutical experience is necessary for this position. We are a smaller company with less restrictive hiring qualifications than most pharma companies. A four year degree is not required, but is generally preferred. In lieu of a degree, strong past performance in science based scholastics at any level is preferred. The most important trait I'm looking for in this hire is a great personality who will bond will with physicians and staff (nurses, MA's, receptionists/gate keepers, PA's, triage nurses, etc.). Candidates with athletic or cheerleading backgrounds and successful bartenders and servers all seem to do well in these primary care physicians.
If you know any pharmaceutical reps, you may know that many take themselves and these jobs extremely seriously. Fun people with strong work ethics will win in this profession. People who are likeable and will consistently put in a 40 hour work week will do better than an experienced rep who goes home every day at 2:30.
