I am a disabled with both physical and emotional disabilities. I have been on ssi for over a decade. I live a hundred miles or so from Pittsburgh. I can walk on my own, however this has become increasingly difficult. My right knee is without an acl, becoming arthritic. About 1/4 mile--if that-- of walking unaided, is the very the maximum i can do. I have a license to drive. But it would probably be best to take the greyhound bus or get a ride to Pittsburgh. Medically and emotionally I am becoming prematurely diminished, debilatated, and need help with becoming a contributive, productive, and enjoying some of life too, person again.
Desperately need help finding: a place to stay(i can pay for cheap accomadations), trustworthy social contacts, basic "moral support" and perhaps someone with me during medical consultations while in Pittsburgh. Most likely I will try to reveive therapies, treatments and also most likely, knee replacement surgery and followup, at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. During this time I would like to stay in Pittsburgh for weeks or months, rather than commute a hundred miles every week or every couple of days. I have no problem with being away from "home". If you can help me establish temporary or even permanent resident status in Pittsburgh, I would be most grateful.
I use to travel to Pittsburgh on a regular basis for medical and emotional treatments and therapies at UPMC. They always treated me with dignity, seriousness and compassion even though I am on ssi and only have Pennsylvania medicaid. In my small city you get the worst medical treatment and lack of respect when you only have medicaid as insurance.
However, over the past decade, I have left my health go downhill for various reasons, one significant one: for lack of any encouragement to go back to Pittsburgh to continue receiving real, honest, dignified and compassionate medical/ treatment therapy. I have pretty much become a recluse or "shut in" and do not have any intelligent, "positive", competent family members or friends.
If private individuals or private or public organizations can be of any of assisstance, even regarding even just one of the issues i am seeking help with, I would be most grateful. Or If you can refer me to someone or some group, regarding my issues stated or implied in this ad, this would also be appreciated.
