A benefit yard sale is scheduled for Simmons-a rescued Mastiff being fostered in the Ford City area, for Timber Ridge Rescue. As a result of Distemper when he was a puppy, Simmons is not able to hold his tongue in his mouth. A recent visit to a canine, dental specialist resulted in a large expense for the rescue. This benefit is to offset that expense. ALL proceeds from the sale will go to Timber Ridge Rescue and will be applied towards Simmons' medical expenses. The benefit is scheduled for Sat. Aug. 30th, from 8:30 am. to 1:00 pm., and will be held at the Orchard Hills Christian Academy, located at 385 Kings Road, Apollo, Pa. 15613

THANK YOU! I just wanted to thank you for yet again another insightful and enlightening note. You have really opened my eyes to the parking situation on this street. As you may have guessed I�ve been speaking sarcastically and have once again completely disregarded the note that you have left on my windshield. I�m sure you are aware that the street is public property and that everyone has the right to park there, regardless of length or status of residency. I understand that it is a mild inconvenience for you to walk an extra ten yards to your house. It is also an inconvenience for you to write the notes that you place on my windshield. I�d venture to guess that you spend more time writing these notes than you spend finding alternative parking spots. So, based on that assumption, you are more of an inconvenience to yourself than I am to you. Maybe instead of writing me notes reminding me of how much of an inconvenience I am maybe you should write notes to yourself reminding yourself of how much of an inconvenience you are to yourself.

Pittsburgh LAN Coalition will be hosting IRON STORM 9, a 24-hour LAN party gaming event. We hope to see more than a hundred gamers, perhaps even 200, converge on the Castle Shannon Firehall at 3600 Library Road, Castle Shannon PA on this coming Saturday, August 16 at approximately 1 p.m. The cost is $25 if you sign up and pre-pay online before 11:59 p.m. Thursday, August 14, or $35 at the door.

There will be a variety of tournaments for both PC gaming and console gaming, including Call of Duty 4, Unreal Tournament 3, Counter-Strike: Source, Halo, Super Smash Brothers, and many others. Some tournaments carry a cash prize (with buy-in) and other carry goods prizes, such as gaming accessories and computer hardware.

JUST MATH refuses PSSA paths to PROFICIENCY (Northern Allegheny County)

After serving the northern allegheny county corridor for a couple years, JUST MATH was named a "Pennsylvania Approved Provider" by the Pennsylvania Department of Education in 2006. Thereafter, JUST MATH accepted any student who sought math tutoring. After seeing firsthand how schools are teaching to the test, JUST MATH sought licensure via the Pennsylvania Board of Private Academic Schools on its math offerings. Consequently, JUST MATH is closing the doors to parents of students who want a 'quick fix.'

The fact of the matter is this:
THERE ARE TOO MANY REMEDIAL MATH COURSES BEING OFFERED IN COLLEGE.
EVERY SEAT IN REMEDIAL MATH COURSES ON THE COLLGE LEVEL ARE FULL.

JUST MATH feels the increasing amount of student enrollment in remedial math offerings on the collge level (at college tuition prices!) has a lot to do with how students are going through the motions in math class, getting a 'grade,' and proceeding easily to a high school diploma.

In an effort to increase mathematical literacy, JUST MATH will no longer accept students who seek a cram session before a test, or want a 'crutch' tutoring session on a weekly basis. JUST MATH will only offer its regular, comprehensive math tutoring sessions which include instruction that parallels instruction that is inherent in the math course that the child is enrolled in at school. Regular communication with the student, parent and school will ensure that the 'double dose' of math instruction results in authentic student understanding of key math topics - inherent in the math course that the child is enrolled in at school.

An unprecedented number of cats and kittens have needed rescue this season. Due to severe overcrowding, the Animal Rescue League and the Western PA Humane Society have teamed up to offer a cat & kitten adoption special until the end of July.

*** The first 30 adult cats (1 year and up) at EACH shelter are FREE to a qualified adopter. After that, adults are $30 + tax. Kittens (under the age of 6 months) are regular price, but if adopting a pair, the second one is HALF OFF. ***

All normal adoption guidelines will be strictly followed, only the adoption fee will be waived. Qualified adopters will complete a Cat Adoption Survey, provide confirmation of permission for pets at residence and provide a valid proof of ID and of current address.

All cats and kittens adopted are spayed/neutered, vaccinated with age appropriate vaccines, micro-chipped, and feline leukemia tested.

The Animal Rescue League, located in East Liberty (Fifth and Hamilton Avenue), is an open-door shelter, which accepts all animals in need. Adoption hours are from 11 am to 8 pm, Tuesday through Friday, and from 11 am to 5 pm Saturday through Monday.

The shelter is beyond capacity, with several hundred cats and kittens being housed by foster homes, all awaiting adoption. Please adopt and save lives.

A longtime fan of black and white horror and B-movies, Fenton came up with his Scream Queen notion almost by accident. Heading into a gallery where his work was being displayed, and finding himself without a free hand, he once used the sturdy tail of one of his creatures to "hang" the monster from his own shoulder while crossing the street. One of the gallery's interpretive dancers saw him, and commented that the idea of a wearable monster looked interesting. From this, it was a short leap for Fenton to imagine models wearing his creatures at art shows, and posing for promotional photos with them as well. Inspired by cinematic "scream queens" like Fay Wray in King Kong, he began a series of photo sessions with a half-dozen different female models. Often kitschy and tongue-in-cheek, the Scream Queens are an ongoing visual success. "Girls and monsters are a weird combination," Fenton muses. "They really don't go together, but that's the brilliance of it." One of his most effective strategies has been to place the creature in the extreme foreground of the picture, and the model in the extreme background -- creating the illusion that instead of being just a few feet tall, the monster is gigantic, looming threateningly over the human. It's a cool underground Jazz Club right out of New York City - located in Bellevue !

Since February we have been holding various music events-this will be our 9th show,
ranging from Acoustic to Blues to Jazz, we even had a poetry/music event.
