experimental instrumental post-prog-jam rock (mt wash)

I am a guitarist, bass player, composer, building out a very basic studio in my mt washington basement. Most of all, I'm looking for a drummer with a kit and mics. But anyone else who thinks they might want to jam out on something creative should say hello. All instruments. Mandolin, banjo, violin, or cello would be really cool... (I know, I'm pressing my luck).

I am interested in getting some weekend sessions together. I might be interested in forming a proper band, but I'm not too hopeful that I will be able to find the right people. That doesn't mean I'm not going to keep trying. Worst case scenario, hey, I still like to jam and meet new people, so no worries, no pressure. Just trying to meet local musicians and see what goes where. I'm looking to keep it mostly instrumental, at least at first.

I am 26 and have decent guitar and bass gear. My musical influences range far and wide and don't really reflect what I am trying to play, but here are some of my favorites (in no order):

Thanks for reading. We are a band that plays mostly originals and we're looking for a show or shows in January. We've already booked a few and just want to keep meeting new bands and getting out to play. We're all experienced playing around Pgh, have friends that will come out, good gear/sound etc. We'll be able to play a solid 90 minutes of mostly originals and a few covers and we'd fit in with bands playing originals, indie, rock, some styles of country and rock cover bands. If you need an opener or a spot on a bill, let me know please. We'd prefer to stay closer to the city/Southside/Bloomfield so we can draw better from our friends-Cannonsburg or Wexford would be too far in either direction but we wouldn't rule out discussing other possibilites. Money is not too much of an issue but whatever is fair and depending on how everyone draws we can work something out.

Me and my bass-playing buddie are looking to re-form our band. He sings some; I do not. I am a guitar player and have been handling all the rhythm/lead work. We were in a three-piece where the drummer did most of the singing, but he's no longer in the picture. We're really not interested in playing out a lot--a couple or three times a month would be great. We both are older and have been playing for a long time and do it for the sheer enjoyment. We do a wide variety of classic rock, Beatles, blues and other interesting stuff and would like to re-form, but would like to try adding a keys player who has compact, pro equipment (we're not into hauling around tons of gear!). We're primarily interested in someone who's mostly a piano player, but who's also able to add some organ/strings when appropriate. Singing is a definite plus. We are also looking for new drummer and a vocalist/rhythm guitar/or any interesting instrument, but for now would really like to try to work in a keyboard player.

We have a nice practice space that's easy to get to.

OK, here's who we are:
We are a group of serious, dedicated and talented musicians, who have jobs and families. We range in age from 35 - 50 and live in the Latrobe/Scottdale/Champion/Ligonier area. We are well-reheared and are the core of a killer band. We practice once a month, which means we come to practice prepared. We are looking to play out only once or maybe twice a month, and will be selective in the places we play. We have all of the pieces in place: guitar, drums, bass, keys, PA, lights, practice location, and contacts for good places to play. We've been playing together for a while and are tight. We looking for a like-minded vocalist to complete our band. Here is a sample of the music we play: Faithfully, Journey; Right Now, Van Halen; Hold the Line, Toto; Don't Tell Me You Love Me, Night Ranger; Roll With the Changes, REO Speedwagon. We are open to a wide range of music but it must be upper-level music that most cover bands don't play.

Here's who you should be:
A singer, male or female, who can sing the repertoire well and in the original key. In addtion, we need a person who will be: the focal point of the band; one who will come to practice prepared; will show up for gigs in time to help set up; perform the gig; and finally help tear down afterwords. We need a person who does not bring drug, alcohol, or drama issues along with them. Moreover, we need a person who is interested in making great music and having fun more than making a lot of money. Playing an instrument (rhythm guitar, keys) is a plus but not necessary.

Have had many email correspondences, but it seems technology has gotten the best of people and they all forgot how to use telephones or something. Still looking for the right drummer...someone who can show up, who is like a metronome, and who understands odd times. I thought it was interesting that the poster mentioned Iceland to reference "original" music. Most music has already been done if you are used to playing blues and metal. There are some bands doing stuff that people have not heard before...whether you'll like it or not is another story...another band from Iceland is Sigur Ros who has a sound that isn't like any other...of course everyone tries to copy them and so you have dozens of knock off bands.

But the potential to make new music is still there if you remember where most 'original' music came from in the first place...it was a response to world events and a reflection of the socio/cultural milieu from where it came from. Instead of people trying to sound like their favorite band and knock a style off...why not pick a topic that is relevant to today (other than sex, beer, relationships, and hamburgers) and be sincerely truthful about it with your guitar. In other words, instead of focussing on 'sounding cool' or being radiofriendly, just write a song the way YOU want it to sound. It just seems like many parts of the world are on the brink of a nuclear war but people are more concerned about reality tv and ringtones. The inspiration to write original music is everywhere...but people are too damn scared to take chances with music.

Some weird truth to both actually - in a way it's all been done before, presently and will be done in other ways again. though Berry & the Beatless got it from everyone before them. Debussy was far more original, as was John Cage, Django, Muddy, Mozart.... It seems there's always a new spin on old stuff - nothings original, not even alt. tunings - they've been around forever - same notes - different p.o.v. - No one can play it all - true dat - but everyone has & will play it all eventually - so much so that it's all already been done before.

That's what makes it cool - play what you like, play what you feel, encourage everyone else to do the same - bake new combinations of musical cake, add some gasoline....

i just heard a young ukrainian guy - nothing new, but super nice to my ears, singing in english with that cool accent - dig it - neoclassic romance-pop

Pittsburgh based Metal Band Seeks Talented Vocalist (Southside)

Chapter 12, a Pittsburgh heavy metal band based in the Southside, is seeking an experienced and talented vocalist to immediately begin writing, recording and performing with the band.

We are open to many vocal styles, however we perdominantly sing in styles similar to: Iron Maiden, Iced Earth, Judas Priest, etc.

Qualifications are preferred but not mandatory:
- Should be at least 21 years old (many shows are in bars)
- Should have reliable transportation
- Willing to learn current catalog of songs and provide input into the writing of new material
- Some evenings and weekends free for rehearsal and performances (we practice approximately 2x a week and could have up to 4-5 shows a month)
-Prior band experience is not necessary

i am a deathmetal vocalist ,i have been singing for 20 years and im looking for a band that need a vocalist.

i also have been playing guitar for 23 years but only really looking to sing right now.

i would prefer to stay within about 15 miles or so of uniontown if at all possible.

i have clips of my vocals,

but to describe what i sound like ,

take old cannibal corpse ,mix it with some broken hope,stir in some gutted and some skinless. LOL

i have a connection with a good friend in pittsburgh ,and could get shows to play.

I am looking for people to jam original (possibly instrumental) music with in the Butler area. I am 29 y/o guitarist interested in writing/recording ORIGINAL music. I have tried my hand at cover bands, but it just never feels right. Maybe it is the Capricorn in me, but I want to create something original!(rock/blues/fusion type of jams) I know there are people like me out there. I have tons of ideas floating around my head. I have nice gear and an easy going attitude. It would be great if you had space to play and or PA and recording equipment. When I find the right people, I am willing to put up cash for some gear.
