I am ICHNA certified, and mix my own paste from pure, 100% natural ingredients. My mix is simply made from finely ground and sifted henna leaves, citrus, and essential oils for a skin nourishing, and pampering aroma! Mehndi is a 5,000-year-old form of body art which uses henna paste (made from the powdered leaves of the henna plant, lemon juice, and essential oils) to temporarily stain the skin. This art form has been part of celebratory traditions in many African, Middle-Eastern and Eastern cultures.
Some traditional reasons for getting henna have been (and still are!):
* Decorating the members of a wedding party - bridal henna is especially beautiful and elaborate.
* Decorating the belly of a pregnant mother - this is considered to bestow good luck upon the mother and her unborn baby.
In the past several years, Mehndi has begun making its way into Western culture. While the ancient traditions of henna still hold as true as ever, new traditions are emerging. For instance:
* Try out a tattoo design before getting it "inked" to make sure you like the design and/or placement
* Get Mehndi instead of "ink" if you enjoy body art, but aren't too fond of needles
* Try a Mehndi Corsage with gilding paste and glitter instead of flowers for a school dance or other special event
* Relax and get pampered with Mehndi instead of (or in addition to) taking a trip to the nail salon
