Good morning auto mechanics of the greater Pittsburgh area,
I went out and bought an '89 GMC Safari to haul some gear with last week and it's running pretty well but the sliding door is BADLY off its hinge -- if you unlock it and pull the door open it immediately falls off the track that is supposed to guide it to the back of the van. It looks like the panel that keeps the track in place on the side of the van is loose and the mechanism in the door appears to be fine but is somewhat aged/rusty, so it's difficult to tell exactly what the problem is -- I'm not sure if this qualifies as bodywork, welding, general repair, etc. Also, the door handle doesn't click sharply when you open it like the other doors -- it just sort of rocks in your hand softly and you have to yank on it pretty hard just to get the door open. It's dark or else there would be photos accompanying this post.
However, I was hoping to drive some people around in it
TONIGHT, so I could really use this door repaired
TODAY!! By 4pm would be AWESOME!
Looking for a reasonably priced handyman or mechanic in the Pittsburgh area who can come to me somewhere or I can meet them. I'll be hauling some stuff between Pittsburgh and Canonsburg most of the day on 79/279 so I'd be fine to drive and meet up anywhere on that corridor if I need to drive to your house or shop.
I need this taken care of QUICKLY, RELIABLY, and for a reasonable price -- I'm not looking to dump thousands into this van, just get the basics functioning so I can get some use out of it. If you've dealt with this problem 100x, be sure to tell me what your experience tells you.
PLEASE INCLUDE
- Your current contact info (in addition to email, cell # or business/home phone)
- Availability (TODAY/ASAP if possible!)
- Your experience (specifically with these types of vehicles, if any)
- Where you are located or where I would need to meet you, or if you could come to me (and cost for this)
- Whether or not you are insured (
please be honest, if you say you have it I'll ask for proof)
- Your ABSOLUTE best estimate of what resources (financial, where the vehicle would have to be, how much time) you need to do the work.
I only get to pick one person to meet today, and I will want that person to take the time they tell me it will take and have it cost what they tell me it costs OR look at it one time and tell me "I was wrong, it will cost THIS and take THIS much time instead" and give me a chance to agree to that revision. There are a hundred little problems that I would like to get resolved with this van (nothing major, just getting some of the miscellaneous stuff working), so if you do good work for me today I promise you that you'll be my first call for the remainder of the project repairs.
Also, I pay in cash (or check, money order, PayPal, whatever you prefer) and do so without hassle upon completion of the work. I rely on Craigslist to do way too many things to short change people once they've held up their end of the bargain. You do the same and this will go perfectly -- you may even score some repeat business!
Thanks everyone!
